Lightning struck at a Tripura village killing three persons and critically injuring four persons on Monday afternoon. The incident occured at Maharani Heerapur area under Udaipur sub-division in Tripura.
Many people had also suffered huge financial losses as many electrical equipment in the area went out of operation due to the massive lighting hit.
Local sources said, the deceased identified as Amtaj Miah (45), Amar Ali (28) and Maman Miah (45) along with four of their associates were working at a pond that was to be filled up. while they were working, rain started and they took shelter inside a nearby deserted room. However, the room did not have any walls. As the ill-fated persons were resting in the wall-less room, lightning struck in which all of the seven persons were critically wounded. Meanwhile, locals noticed this and rushed to the spot to take them to the nearby Maharani Primary health centre.
The on-duty doctors readily referred six of them to Gomati district hospital as they were severely injured and required urgent medical attention that was unavailable at the PHC. Ironically, three persons died on their way to Gomati district hospital.
However, four of the colleagues of the deceased persons were still under observation. One of the injured is getting treatment at Maharani hospital while three other injured persons are under treatment at Gomati district hospital.
SDM Udaipur Aniruddhya Roy and DCM Tanmoy Debnath rushed to Gomati district hospital and interacted with the victims. They had assured to give all the government support.
Describing the situation, locals said, they heard a loud cracking sound of lightening which hit seven people. For three of them, it was a fatal strike. Besides, many electrical gadgets like TV, fridge etc were damaged due to lightening.
