Agartala (Tripura) July 21: A fierce dispute in the Shalbagan area near Agartala on Sunday night led to death of a person. The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Kumar Debnath. He died in the wee hours of Monday.

Even as earlier report said four persons were injured in the clash, speaking to the media, deceased person’s brother said, total three including his deceased brother were injured. While Rakesh Kumar succumbed to his injuries, two others are battling for life in the GB Hospital.

A violent machete attack occurred in the Shalbagan locality under the jurisdiction of Airport Police Station on Sunday evening, leaving four individuals injured.
All the victims are currently receiving medical attention at GBP Hospital, with one reported to be in critical condition.
Brutal Assault Reported Around 9:15 pm
According to available reports, the incident took place around 9:15 PM when two individuals—Mona Debnath, also known as Mona Don, and Khokon Das—launched a vicious assault on Bapan Debnath and Sandwip Mukherjee using a big machete (Ram dao).
The attackers allegedly intended to kill the victims, causing grievous injuries in the process.
Locals Intervene, Attackers Detained
As the attackers attempted to escape the scene, alert local residents intervened. They managed to catch both assailants and subjected them to a severe beating.
The police, along with fire brigade personnel and local residents, quickly responded and transported all four injured individuals to GBP Hospital.
One Victim in Critical Condition
Medical sources have indicated that one of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries from the machete attack and remains in critical condition. The identities of the injured have not been officially released yet.
Motive Still Unknown, Investigation Ongoing
While the exact reason behind the attack is yet to be determined, law enforcement authorities have launched a thorough investigation. No official statement has been made so far.

However, Officer-in-Charge of Airport Police Station, Abhijit Mondal, confirmed that an inquiry is in progress and that normalcy has been restored in the affected area.
History of Violence Linked to One Accused
Local sources disclosed that one of the accused, Khokon Das, has a record of criminal behavior. He had previously been imprisoned for attempting to kill his own brother and sister-in-law using a machete.
