In a bizarre incident, a junior Physical Instructor (PI) was attacked by a ‘mentally challenged’ person and was left critically injured. The incident took place at Boxanagar area under Sepahijala in Tripura on Tuesday. The PI, Biswendu Sharma, posted at a school of Manikyanagar under Boxanagar sub-division sustained serious injuries after the mentally challenged man attacked him with his “trident(Trishul)”. He was then shifted to ILS hospital Agartala with the help of locals, police said.
The PI Biswendu Sharma started for his school in Manikya Nagar early on Tuesday morning as he was scheduled to take a Yoga class for the students. On his way on foot to his school, the mentally challenged man appeared and attacked him all of a sudden. The sharp edges of the trident shoved inside near his ear. His eyes and ears escaped the wounds narrowly, eyewitnesses said.
Soon the villagers spotted the sports teacher bleeding profusely and arranged a vehicle to shift him to a nearby hospital. However, as his injuries were serious, Sharma was taken to ILS Hospital in Agartala.. The local Gram Panchayat Pradhan escorted him upto ILS hospital Agartala where, at present, he is under treatment.
OC of Boxanagar police station, Sub-inspector Bharat Debbarma said, “We have detained the accused. The accused is not mentally stable. He has also undergone treatment in a psychiatric hospital for many years. He doesn’t even go to his home and mostly spends nights on the roads. We will see as to what measures can be taken in regard of this”.
Family members of the victim, on the other hand, said, “such kind of violent people must not be left at the mercy of God. A genuine approach needs to be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents”. In fact, the accused was armed with a sharp object – Trishul. This is dangerous and unsuspecting people may be the victim – the administration needs to chalk out right plans to handle such dangerous persons and ensure that such people do not roam around the road freely.
