Mizoram government will implement National Food Security Act (NFSA) from the next month. NFSA allows up to 75 percent of the rural population and up to 50 percent of the urban population to get food grain at subsidized prices. Official sources said that more than seven lakh people out of around 11 lakh population will be provided rice at subsidised rate under NFSA while the remaining households can buy eight kg rice per month at Rs.15 per kg. According to Mizoram’s Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department those excluded from the scheme will be get rice through the Public Distribution System (PDS).
