Agartala, May 15, 2025 – In a significant push to advance Northeast India’s development, Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L. Murugan, commenced a comprehensive two-day official visit to Agartala and South Tripura district on Thursday. The visit underscores the Central Government’s commitment to inclusive growth, infrastructure development, and citizen-centric governance in the region, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming border areas into hubs of progress.
A Spiritual Start at Mata Tripureswari Temple
Dr. Murugan began his visit with a spiritual tribute, offering prayers at the revered Mata Tripureswari Temple in Udaipur, Gomati district. This iconic temple, a cultural and religious landmark of Tripura, set a meaningful tone for his engagements, reflecting respect for the state’s rich heritage.
Warm Welcome and Development Review in Belonia
Upon arriving at Belonia, the district headquarters of South Tripura, Dr. Murugan was warmly received by District Magistrate Mohammad Sajjad P. and Superintendent of Police Maurya Krishna Chandra, alongside other senior officials. The minister promptly chaired a high-level review meeting with district authorities to evaluate the progress of key development initiatives.
The discussions focused on flagship Central Government schemes driving transformative change in the region, including:
- Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), empowering mothers with financial support for maternal and child health.
- Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), ensuring accessible healthcare for millions.
- PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), uplifting tribal communities through targeted interventions.
Dr. Murugan emphasized the Prime Minister’s vision of redefining border villages as the “first point” of development rather than the “last mile.” He stressed the need for seamless access to essential services such as clean water, robust road networks, and reliable electricity to foster sustainable growth in these areas.
Minister hails South Tripura’s Progress
Expressing admiration for South Tripura’s achievements, Dr. Murugan noted that the district’s development trajectory surpasses the state’s average growth rate.
