Agartala (Tripura) July 25: The Supreme Court will determine the fate of 10,323 terminated teachers on September 17 next.
A bunch of three petitions filed by Debasish Paul Choudhury, State government and Tanmoy Nath clubbed together, will come up for final hearing before a Division Bench on that day.
On the last date of hearing, the division bench directed the state government not to discontinue the service of 10,323 school teachers till September 17 next who had been sacked in December last year by the apex court but were allowed with their ad-hoc service till June 30 this year.
Altogether 9853 among the 10,323 teachers have now been working in various schools on ad-hoc basis because about 450 of them got absorbed in the service after qualifying teachers eligibility test (TET).
The teachers were appointed without prescribed qualification after Right to Education Act 2009 was passed and in 2014 High Court of Tripura cancelled the job stating them illegal and found the selection was not proper, which was later upheld by Supreme Court too. While allowing six months ad-hoc appointment of the teachers following repeated persuasion of earlier Left Front government, the court had made it clear that there was no scope further extension of their service and the court shall not entertain any further petition in this regard. However, the newly sworn BJP-IPFT government moved Supreme Court seeking further extension of their service for two years.
