August 16, 2018: In a statement, AIIMS said that former prime minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee passed away at 5.05 pm on Thursday. “It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of former prime minister of India Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at 5.05 pm,” the hospital said in a statement. “Despite the best of efforts, we have lost him today,” it said.
President Ram Nath Kovind Tweeted: Extremely sad to hear of the passing of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, our former Prime Minister and a true Indian statesman. His leadership, foresight, maturity and eloquence put him in a league of his own. Atalji, the Gentle Giant, will be missed by one and all.
PM Narendra Modi in a Tweet said: India grieves the demise of our beloved Atal Ji. His passing away marks the end of an era. He lived for the nation and served it assiduously for decades. Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb also condoled the death of former Prime Minister Vajpayee and tweeted,
“Extremely saddened to hear about the passing away of one of our greatest inspirations for nation building, Bharat Ratna Shri #AtalBihariVajpayee ji. OM Shanti.”
BJP National Secretary and Tripura In-charge Sunil Deodhar wrote in his tweet: “Bharat Ratna Atal Ji, @RSSorg Swayamsevak,Tallest Leader of @BJP4India, Successful PM, Statesman par Excellence,Expert in Foreign Diplomacy, Great Poet, Firebrand Orator, Ajaatshatru Politician & what not!
