Agartala, January 03, 2019: Sleuths seized more than 2000 kg ganja of worth more than Rs 1 crore from a club of Melaghar in Tripura today.
The Border Security Force (BSF) along with police and civil administration today seized huge quantity of ganja from Cosmopolitan Club of Melaghar under Sepahijala district. The BSF Intelligence branch received specific information about stockpiling of huge quantity of Ganja inside the office premises of the Cosmopolitan Club under Melaghar Police Station.
This information was immediately passed to SDM and SDPO Sonamura and a joint operation was planned. As per the plan, at about 11:30 hours, when the search operation party consisting of BSF troops along with Police and Civil Administration of the State reached the target area, they found Cosmopolitan Club premises unoccupied and rooms in the buildings were locked.
During the course of search operation, the joint operation party seized 204 bundles of compressed Ganja (10kg in each packet – total 2,040 kg) having market value of Rs. 1,02,00,000 from the Office complex of Cosmopolitan Club.
Seizure of such huge quantity of Ganja from recognized and dignified club clearly indicates the sensitivity and seriousness of the crime of Narcotics in the State of Tripura. It is learnt that Ratan Datta of Ghilamura is club president and Ruhi Das of Urmai is club secretary of Cosmopolitan Club.
The Police have registered a FIR against the President and Secretary of this Club under NDPS Act. Seized Ganja has been deposited with the local police.
According to BSF, Tripura The Border Security Force, in addition to guarding 856 Kms of International Boundary in the State of Tripura, has been making all out efforts to curb this menace and seized huge quantity of these Narcotics Substances /Contrabands in the past from bordering areas as well as in hinterlands. BSF Intelligence branch has been receiving information about smuggling of Ganja from India to Bangladesh and also illegal transportation of this Narcotics Substance from the State of Tripura to other parts of Country through various means of transportation.
