Agartala, April 19, 2019: In a significant political development, IPFT, an Indigenous people-centric regional party of Tripura lodged complaints with the Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura today against State Congress chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma for ‘gross violation of Model Code of Conduct’ and demanded appropriate remedial action against Debbarma.
The complaints from IPFT came after Pradyot Kishore went to Khowai Police station and slapped an accused, who belonged to indigenous community. The incident sparked much resentment among people, especially among indigenous people, alleged an IPFT activist in Agartala today.
Submitting a memorandum to the CEO, Tripura and also to DIG (Law & Order) and Principal Secretary (Home) of the State, IPFT supremo NC Debbarma alleged, in poll campaigns, Pradyot made speeches ‘vehemently attempting to create ethnic conflict, disharmony and creating ethnic tension among the cross section of peace loving people of the State.
“His coinage slogan ‘Puila Jati Ulo Party’ (First community, then Party) is nothing but to create such ethnic conflict in between the people living in hill areas and plain areas as well”, IPFT alleged.
NC Debbarma further alleged, Pradyot Kishore is ‘utilizing money power’ to influence innocent poor common people and distributing ‘fund in cash and in cheque’ throughout the State, particularly in Hill areas.
IPFT leaders expressed serious concern over Pradyot Kishore’s assault on an accused in Police custody at Khowai Police station yesterday. In the memorandum, IPFT termed the incident as ‘glaring instance of violation of Model Code of Conduct’. Supporting the allegations, IPFT submitted relevant documents and video footages.
It may be noted, Pradyot Kishore stormed into Khowai PS and slapped an accused person who was involved in stone pelting at Congress nominee from East LS seat Pragya Debbarma – who is also elder sister of Pradyot Kishore. As the CCTV footage of slapping was released by BJP yesterday, Congress – or for that matter Pradyot Kishore is finding it difficult to justify his action as large scale condemnation is flooding social media platforms. Also, Police registered a sue motto case against Pradyot.
