New Delhi, May 30, 2019: Narendrabhai Damodardas Modi, who led the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to a spectacular victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, on Thursday took oath as the Prime Minister.

President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office and secrecy in Hindi to Modi at a ceremony attended by thousands of people at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Agency reports say Narendra Modi took oath today as Prime Minister for the second consecutive term. President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of Office and Secrecy to the Prime Minister and his Council of Ministers. 24 persons were sworn in as Cabinet Ministers, 9 as Ministers of State (Independent Charge) and  24 as Ministers of State.

Those included in the Council of Ministers are Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, D V Sadanand Gowda, Nirmala Sitharaman, Ram Vilas Paswan, Narendra Singh Tomar, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Thawar Chand Gehlot, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank”, Arjun Munda, Smriti Zubin Irani, Dr Harsh Vardhan, Prakash Javadekar, Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Prahlad Joshi, Mahendra Nath Pandey, Arvind Ganpat Sawant, Giriraj Singh, and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Rao Inderjit Singh, Shripad Yesso Naik, Dr Jitendra Singh, Kiren Rijiju, Prahlad Singh Mulayam Singh Patel, RK Singh, Hardeep Singh Puri, Mansukh Lal Mandaviya took oath as Ministers of State (Independent Charge).

Faggan Singh Kulaste, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Arjun Ram Meghwal, General VK Singh, Krishan Pal Gurjar, Danve Raosaheb Dadarao, G Kishan Reddy, Parshottam Rupala, Ramdas Athavle, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Babul Supriyo, Sanjeev Baliyan, Sanjay Shamrao Dhotre, Anurag Thakur, Suresh Angadi, Nityanand Rai, Ratan Lal Kataria, V Murlidharan, Renuka Singh Saruta, Som Prakash, Rameshwar Teli, Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Kailash Choudhary and Debasree Chaudhury took oath as Ministers of State.

The function was attended by leaders from BIMSTEC countries and foreign envoys, Governors, Chief Ministers, Opposition leaders, corporate heads and film stars. President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena, President of Myanmar, U Win Myint, President of Bangladesh, Md. Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dr Lotay Tshering, Prime Minister of Nepal, K P Sharma Oli, Special Envoy of Thailand, Grisada Boonrach, President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth witnessed the event.

Among the Chief Ministers who attended were Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. From Opposition, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, and Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav were present. (IANS/AIR News)
