Agartala, January 11, 2019: Protesting against Madhab Bari firing, regional tribal-based opposition Parties including INPT, IPFT (Tipraha), NCT, TSF and other parties have called a 12-hour shut down in TTAADC areas tomorrow. However, all the major Political Parties including ruling BJP and its ally IPFT as well as CPM have opposed the strike call and appealed to people to maintain peace and normalcy.
Meanwhile, heavy security patrolling has been taking place at Madhavbari and adjoining areas to avoid any untoward incident. Life is slowly limping back to normalcy. District Police chief Ajit Pratap Singh said. “No fresh violence or clash has taken place”. However, Section 144 is still in force and Internet services have been stopped for past 72 hours to prevent rumors from spreading.
Opposition Left Front today opposed the 12-hour strike. Addressing a press conference, CPI-M leader Bijan Dhar said, “There is no justification to call the strike now. It will further aggravate the situation”. He appealed for restoration of peace across the state. Left Front also opposed the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 and supported the Indira-Mujib pact with March 24, 1971, as a cutoff date to detect illegal infiltration into India from neighbouring Bangladesh. Like other parties, Dhar demanded Judicial probe by a sitting High Court Judge.

After a Party meeting IPFT supremo, NC Debbarma also opposed the 12-hour strike. He said, “IPFT is not supporting the Bandh. We are opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, but not in touch with INPT. If necessary, we will go for intensified agitation will hold strike separately or even hold hunger strike – but opposing tomorrow’s strike”.
