Agartala, January 11, 2019: Governor Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki called upon the youths to prepare themselves in for become future leaders of the nation. While delivering the inaugural speech of the Indian Youth Parliament presently being held in Tripura University the Governor lamented that even after so many decades after independence India could not attain the height that the freedom fighters and also common people once had dreamt.
Exhorting the youths, who came here to attend the Youth Parliament from various parts of the North East, Prof Solanki asked them to imbibe the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and inculcate among the values and sense of oneness amongst all Indians so that they could become a true leader of the future. He dwelt extensively on the unique identity of India as a civilized nation and felt that as per Swami Vivekananda’s dream this century would be the century of India.
The Governor, who is also Chief Rector of the Tripura University, asked the youths to take active part in the discussions and debates. “It is time that you should start developing leadership quality. India needs leaders and you are the one who can provide her with them”, he said and then added that the youths must also understand the true nature of the nation—as a way of life , its values, culture and civilization mooring.
“And one must not also forget one of the most important components of democracy – public opinion- in his or her quest for leadership”, the Governor said. Vice Chancellor of the Tripura University Prof V L Dharurkar in his highly inspiring speech said India was gradually becoming the country to be dominated by the youths.
“Soon India is going to be the country of youths while all other countries will soon be the countries of old age people” he said and then added : Keeping this in mind the youths of the country should make themselves fully armed with leadership quality, especially in democratic processes and practices. Their contribution would be immense and highly required. And it’s time that they should make up their mind and come forward to lead. But for this they need to prepare – this youth parliament is one among the important platforms for this, he opined.
Prof Dharurkar also detailed the importance of Youth Parliament being organized at a time which coincided with Swami Vivekananda’s birth day National Youth Day.
Registrar of the Tripura University Sanit Debroy in his speech asked the youths to visit rural areas, neglected areas, forgotten areas and meet people. Only when you feel the rural India and understand the aspirations and possibilities of the common people , neglected people then only you can become a true parliamentarian, he said and added that the path to become a leader is never an easy one , but a very difficult to tread.
Earlier Prof Nandakumar Naik Prof Emeritus and advisor to ADB gave speech on public administration and also answered various queries from the participants on preparation for public servants. Asustosh Joshi, convenor of Indian Media Foundation and organizer of the Youth Parliament gave details of the programme.
