Agartala, August 1: Riaz Hamidullah, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, who is currently on a four-day visit to Tripura, met with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday.

The Chief Minister’s Office shared a brief statement on X, noting that the High Commissioner had paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister at his official residence.

Riaz Hamidullah toured several key locations in the state, including the Integrated Check Post (ICP) along the India-Bangladesh border, according to official sources.

Following his visit to the ICP, Hamidullah spoke to the media, highlighting the deep-rooted ties between Tripura and eastern Bangladesh, likening the relationship to the natural flow of rivers that traverse the two nations.

He emphasized that economic trade remains the primary bridge connecting the two sides. Speaking about his interaction with officials from the Land Port Authority of India (LPAI), the envoy said the two-hour discussion was aimed at addressing operational issues and described the meeting as productive and outcome-oriented.

Describing the India-Bangladesh relationship as organic, people-driven, and naturally evolving, Hamidullah expressed confidence in further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

As part of his Tripura visit, the envoy is also scheduled to inspect the progress of the Agartala-Akhaura rail link project and visit the Nischintapur railway station on the outskirts of Agartala.

Additionally, he will travel to Sabroom in South Tripura district on Sunday to visit the recently built “Maitri Setu.” Although the bridge was jointly inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the then Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina in March 2021, it is yet to become operational following a change of leadership in Dhaka.
