Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha fired verbal salvos at certain Congress leaders of the State, labelling them as ‘dramatists.’ He asserted that these individuals have entered the political arena solely to serve their personal interests, rather than the welfare of the people.
He did not spare the CPIM and termed its tenure in the State as a black chapter.
Speaking at a state-level workshop on IT and Social Media held at Sahid Bhagar Singh Yuva Awas in Agartala, Dr. Saha underscored the pivotal role of IT and social media warriors in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
He highlighted their responsibility to disseminate the values of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to a wider audience and to propagate the noteworthy public welfare initiatives spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The Chief Ministers of the Northeast region unanimously acknowledge that we now stand integrated with the broader Indian landscape. Past administrations had pursued a divisive strategy, often neglecting our region. However, the Northeast has made substantial progress, marking a comprehensive transformation,” Dr. Saha remarked.
Regarding the political landscape, Dr. Saha noted the extensive governance of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) in the state for over 35 years. In contrast, he acknowledged that the BJP is in its formative stages and envisions a substantial journey ahead.
“Our good fortune lies in having the strong support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside stalwarts like Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda. Prime Minister Modi’s approach to politics has redefined the norms, aligning seamlessly with our aspirations,” Dr. Saha remarked.
In a veiled reference to Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Dr. Saha cautioned against heeding to what he termed as “theatrical statements.” The Chief Minister likened such individuals to cockroaches, prone to switching party affiliations for their personal gain.
According to Dr. Saha, their entry into politics was primarily driven by self-interest, rather than a commitment to the welfare of the populace. He expressed scepticism in the public’s faith in such figures and their capacity to influence opinions.
The Chief Minister further remarked, “Their flair for drama might be commendable; however, they might find a more suitable stage in Mumbai.”
“With limited political alternatives in the State before BJP appeared, Congress was the main opponent to the CPIM. Regrettably, the Congress is characterized by turbulence, while the CPIM is marked by authoritarianism, manipulation, and violence. The CPIM adheres to a use-and-discard approach to politics. The era of the Congress-imposed Emergency and the CPIM’s entire tenure stand as dark chapters,” Dr. Saha added.
The program was attended by BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharya, BJP general secretary Amit Rakshit, IT and Social Media Northeast Coordinator Santanu Kalita, and other notable figures.
