Battala Market, the second busiest and largest market in the city after Maharajganj Bazar. faced significant damage due to the incident.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha visited the affected Bazar on Monday and took stock of the situation. He assured assistance to the affected shop owners so that they can restart their business at the earliest.

According to the Battala Market Association Secretary Subhas Das the fire is likely to be originated from an electrical short circuit. Claiming the at least 155 shops – mainly small vendors – were reduced to ashes, Das said, property worth Rs 2 crores have been gutted, claimed shopkeepers.
