May 20, 2018: Incessant rains in Tripura has rendered 13775 families homeless across the State and all the major rivers including Haora, Gomati and Khowai Rivers are over flowing. Considering present situation, the Central Government has issued ‘alert’ warning to the State administration, sources said and added, the State Government including NDRF have already swung into action and have taken all possible steps.
Because of heavy rains in early morning today, two persons died due to landslides and two persons suffered injuries. Smt. BishuhamRupini (60 years) w/o Sri. Bhakta Narayan Rupini (65 years) of Nairengbari, Champabari ADC village of Belbari RD Block under Jirania subdivision of West Tripura District died due to landslide and her husband was seriously injured.
In another incidence, Ms.Mary Kaipeng (18years), D/o Sri Subrailing Kaipeng of Palukbar ADC village of Ompi RD block, Gomati District died due to the landslide and her mother Smt. Porham Kaipeng (42 years) was injured. Both the injured persons have been taken to the hospital for immeditely. The DM & Collectors of both the Districts with their officials visited the places of occurrence. Immediate assistance of Rs. 10000/- was given by the Administration to the families of the deceased for funeral ceremony. The State Government has declared Rs. 500000/-(Rs. 400000/- from State Disaster Response Fund and Rs. 100000/- from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund) to the families of the deceased persons.

Due to heavy rains in uphill Baramura hills, Hawrah river got flooded with flood level reaching to 10.43 meters from the sea level by 7.00 pm today. Flood water entered in the low lying areas on the bank of Hawrah river in Agartala city such as Baldakhal, Pratapgargh, Shrilanka Basti, Chandrapur, Jogendranagar, Aralia etc since from today afternoon due to which large number of families have been shifted by the District Administration in relief camps. In all total 18 number of relief camps have been opened under West Tripura District ( Sadar Sub-division-11 nos and Jirania Sub -division-7 nos) in which about 667 families are sheltered till 7.00 PM. Also five relief camps have been opened Amarpur subdivision of Gomati District , sheltering about 150 families. There is possibility of opening of some more flood relief camps as the relief work is being continued. NDRF, TSR, Civil Defence, Fire services personnel etc have been deployed for rescue and relief work.
Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath visited various flood affected areas and flood relief camps along with the District Officials. Hon’ble Minister directed the Administration to provide all the necessary relief measures to the flood affected families. Chief Secretary , Director General of Police , PWD Secretary etc visited various flood affected areas and examined the status of embankment of Howrah river. The Chief Secretary gave necessary directions to engineers of Water Resource Department to take immediate measures to strengthen the embankment of Howrah river by putting sand bags tonight so as to prevent any breach in the embankment.
Basic facilities such as hot cooked meals, milk and biscuits for children, mineral water for drinking , electricity, mattress, health check up of inmates, security at the relief camps etc is being provided in all the flood relief camps.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb who is in Guwahati telephonically held discussion with Ratan Lal Nath, and the Chief Secretary of Tripura and reviewed flood situation in the State. He expressed his deep sympathies and condolences for the deceased persons and assured all the possible help and support from the State Government to the flood affected families.
