Covid19 is raging through Tripura, especially in the West district. According to the media bulletin, the number of deaths increased to 144 and cumulative total number of active patients stands at 5618 on Saturday. Total 262 persons were discharged from different CCC across the State.
Importantly, fatality rate is inching forward to touch 1 per cent mark – at present, it is 0.99 per cent and Covid19 positivity rate is also showing an increasing trend. All these growing numbers of deaths and new cases are indicating a grim picture for the State, opined medical personnel on condition of anonymity.
Most importantly, apart from AMC areas, the novel coronavirus is now spreading its roots in small pockets like Kalyanpur, Ambassa etc. Covid19 spread has created panic among the people across the State.
Amid all such things, the state government has come out with an important decision for COVID19 management. A team of expert doctors would be brought from New Delhi to tackle the emerging situation, Education minister Ratanlal Nath told the Media at Secretariat in Agartala on Saturday.
The expert team is expected to land soon here in Tripura to assess the ground situation prevailing in Tripura and also to probe the reasons behind deaths taking place in Tripura, Nath said at a press conference.
He said that the state government had sought support from the centre to strengthen the fight against Covid-19 and accordingly the centre had accepted to extend support.
“We have taken a number of crucial decisions to decrease the deaths. Any death is unfortunate. To stop the deaths we have sought support from Delhi and a team is likely to reach the state to help the state out”, Nath said.
Intriguing it may sound, while the State is rattled with Corona scare – there is little concern among the common people and social distancing norm is grossly violated in market places, both in urban and rural areas. A new avenue of ‘break social distancing’ was created as the traffic Police have started slapping fines for a pillion rider without a helmet. Mad rush for buying helmets belies the dreadful situation prevailing in the city.
Ironically all such hustle-bustles are taking place despite repeated appeals from the administration to avoid gatherings. While carelessness of people is helping to transmit Covid19 faster, precarious health care delivery systems are casting a serious sense of insecurity and helplessness.
