It is pertinent to awake the youth and inculcate the principals of humanity for steering society and the country in the right direction – the success of Youth Festival lies in awakening the youth, said Youth Affairs and Sports Minister of Tripura Sushanta Chowdhury after inaugurating two-day long State-level Youth Festival in Agartala on Wednesday. He called for working with new ideas for awakening the youth.
“The youth don’t break down; they continue to make efforts until the goal is achieved. The patience to reach the goal is the main characteristic of the youth,” Chowdhury said.
Explaining the significance of Youth Festival observance, the Minister said, Swami Vivekananda played a crucial role in awakening the youth – that is why Youth Festival is held on the birth anniversary of the Swamiji.
“The youth festival is observed to guide the youth in the righteous path and to nurture the talents. Through the Youth Festival, a cordial relationship among the youth develops through showcasing their talents and cultural exchanges”, he said.
Chowdhury also emphasized on building a Gen-next free of drugs. In this context, he asked the Youth Affairs and Sports department to take the lead.
Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder who attended the programme as special guest said the youth festival is the key source of national integration.
“The Yuba Shakti was the base of achieving independence. But, now-a-days the young generation is being misguided in various ways including use of drugs. In such a situation, it is our duty to awaken the youth in a new spirit and engage them in nation building,” the Mayor told the gathering.

As many as 462 young artists from eight districts joined the two-day Youth Festival. They participated in various cultural events. The inauguration was followed by a Chorus Folk Song performed by the artists of Khowai district.
