All the nomination papers submitted for 51-seat Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) have been found valid, officials said in Agartala on Friday.
As per the civic body poll schedule, scrutiny has been done on Friday and all the nominations have been declared valid after the scrutiny.
According to the Retuning Officer, Ashim Saha, there are three returning officers in AMC, they are looking after ward no- 1 to 17, 18 to 34 and 35 to 51.There are 51 seats in AMC. The last date for submission of nomination was November 3 last.
“Scrutiny of the nominations has been done today and all nominations valid. In some wards, the political parties fielded substitute candidates and as per the rules when nomination of the main candidate was found valid, nomination of the substitute candidates were cancelled.
As per rule, only one candidate from a particular party will contest in a particular seat, RO Ashim Saha told the media.
“After scrutiny, now there are 189 candidates in the AMC polls and 254 nominations have been declared valid”, Saha said.
Notably, BJP, CPM and Trinamool Congress submitted nominations for all of the 51 seats in AMC.
