IC Sanjit Tripura reached the spot and brought the vehicle to the police station as the location was not suitable for conducting a detailed search and seizure process.
Search Conducted in Presence of Executive Magistrate and FSL Team
Following standard legal procedures, police informed the Executive Magistrate, SDPO Panisagar, and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team.
The search operation was conducted at the police station in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and officials concerned to ensure transparency and compliance with legal provisions.
During the search, police recovered 15 packets from the vehicle. After opening the packets, officials found a large quantity of suspected Yaba tablets.
The final counting revealed approximately 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets.
One of Tripura’s Biggest Recent Yaba Seizures
SDPO Panisagar Kishalaya Sisodia described the recovery as one of the largest recent drug seizures in Tripura.
“This is not only one of the biggest seizures in North Tripura but also among the largest seizures in the entire state,” Sisodia said.
He congratulated the Damchera Police team, particularly IC Sanjit Tripura and the personnel involved in the operation, for their successful action.
According to police assessment, the seized Yaba tablets have an estimated black-market value of around ₹7.5 crore.
Increased Patrolling and Vehicle Checks Help Police Crack Down on Drugs
SDPO Sisodia credited the intensified anti-drug campaign led by North Tripura SP Avinash Rai for strengthening enforcement activities across the district.
He said police have increased:
- Vehicle checking operations
- Area patrolling
- Intelligence-based searches
- Monitoring of suspicious movements
These measures have helped police gather information and intercept illegal drug consignments.

With the latest seizure, Damchera Police have recovered nearly 1.7 lakh Yaba tablets within one week.

Investigation Underway to Trace Drug Network

The investigation is now focused on identifying the people involved in the alleged drug trafficking network, tracing the supply chain, and taking action against all persons linked with the illegal trade.
North Tripura District Police reiterated that strict enforcement measures will continue against drug trafficking and organised criminal activities to support the objective of building a safer and drug-free society.
News Analysis: Reporter’s Interactions
During an interaction with this reporter after the major seizure, two local residents expressed satisfaction over the police action and appreciated the efforts of Damchera Police in intercepting a large narcotics consignment.
According to the residents, the drug menace has become a serious concern because of its impact on the younger generation, particularly school and college students. They said the easy availability of addictive substances can damage the educational future, health, and social life of young people if strict action is not taken continuously.
One resident, Shyamal Banik, said that the large seizure has created confidence among people that police are actively working to control the illegal drug network. He added that such operations need to continue regularly because a single successful seizure cannot completely eliminate the problem.
Pranesh Halder, the another resident highlighted that college students are among the most vulnerable groups affected by drug abuse. He said families in the area remain worried about the possibility of young people getting trapped in addiction due to the activities of drug suppliers.
The residents also urged authorities to strengthen awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and local communities along with strict enforcement against drug traffickers.
