Leftists in Tripura intensified criticism of the ruling government after miscreants attacked the residence of one Congress supporter, Keshab Sarkar at Majlishpur under Jirania in Tripura on Saturday late. It was alleged ruling party backed goons ransacked the house of the Congress activist and looted money and other valuables from the house.

Leaders of CPM, including party’s Politburo member Manik Sarkar held the ruling party BJP responsible for the attack. Manik Sarkar along with other CPM leaders went to Jirania on Sunday to take note of the situation.

Condemning the attack, Manik Sarkar alleged Tripura has turned into a paradise for criminals.

He also alleged the law and order situation in the State deteriorated to such an extent that Tripura topped the table under the political violence category among North East states. Moreover, public life is in danger owing to deterioration of law and order.

Manik Sarkar accompanied by senior CPM leaders Pabitra Kar, Ratan Das, Radha Charan Debbarma and others also visited the affected area and interacted with locals on Sunday.

It is reported, a written complaint was filed with the local police station, however, no one was apprehended in this connection, so far.

Launching a scathing verbal attack against the ruling party, veteran CPM leader Pabitra Kar called a press conference on Sunday evening at the party office at Melarmath in Agartala and alleged that in addition to the attack on the CPI-M party leaders and workers, the ruling BJP now adopted a policy of ‘political robbery’, where houses of any of the opposition party workers are being ransacked as well as looted.

“Such incidents of political robbery are taking place in several parts of the Majlishpur assembly constituency purely under the instigation of a minister,” Kar alleged without naming the minister.

He also expressed concern over the role of the police and alleged, “The entire police administration in Jirania has become paralyzed and unable to take any step against the perpetrators.”

Kar continued castigating the BJP party and further alleged that in yet another incident that took place on Saturday night at Jirania Subhash Para, the party’s Sadar committee member Madhusudhan Das and his brother Anjan Das were attacked by the BJP goons and left the victims seriously injured in their residence.

CPI-M leader and former minister Manik Dey and party leader Ratan Das were present in the press conference on Sunday.
