The Tripura Pradesh BJP has announced Dipak Majumder as the new Mayor of the prestigious Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) for which the oath taking ceremony will be held on December 08 next. Majumder, contested from the Ward no- 16 of AMC and secured a spectacular win.
While announcing the names of the AMC Mayor, chairman of 13 Municipal Councils and six Nagar Panchayats, BJP state president Dr. Manik Saha on Monday said in a press conference that the swearing ceremony would take place on December 8 and 9 next.
He said the oath taking ceremony for Agartala Municipal Corporation would be held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on December 8 next.
“We were looking for organizing the swearing-in ceremony in a bigger way but the plan didn’t work following the weather condition. However, BJP chief J.P. Nadda and other central leaders are expected to arrive in the state later on to celebrate the massive victory of the party,” he told the media.
According to the BJP state president, the names of new Mayor and chairmen of the urban bodies have been finalized followed by a meeting of the state committee in presence of party’s central observer Vinod Sonkar, who arrived in the state on Sunday.
While Majumder will take oath as Mayor, Manika Das Dutta, a Mahila Morcha leader, is very likely to become the Deputy Mayor.
Detailing about selection of names, Dr. Saha said that the names were sent to Delhi after finalization from the state committee and approval was given by the BJP national president.
Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma, Education minister Ratanlal Nath and central observer Vinod Sonkar were present in the press conference.
As decided the party, the chairmen for 13 Municipal Councils are- Pradyut Dey Sarkar (Dharmanagar), Biswajit Das (Kumarghat), Chapala Debroy (Kailashahar), Mamata Das (Ambassa), Swapna Majumder Baidya (Santirbazar), Nikhil Chandra Gope (Belonia), Shital Chandra Majumder (Udaipur), Anamika Ghosh (Melaghar), Anjan Purkayasta (Bishalgarh), Aparna Shukla Das (Ranirbazar), Anita Debnath (Mohanpur), Debashis Nath Sharma (Khowai) and Rupak Sarkar (Teliamura).
The chairmen of six Nagar Panchayats are- Anuradha Das (Panisagar), Prashanta Sinha (Kamalpur), Rama Poddar Deb (Sabroom), Ratan Kumar Das (Jirania), Sarada Chakraborty (Sonamura) and Bikas Saha (Amarpur).
Meanwhile, BJP secured a striking victory in 329 out of 334 seats in the recent urban body polls. Dr. Saha said the party’s victory was celebrated by the party karyakartas all over the country.
