Tripura Police arrested a doctor posted in Teliamura sub-divisional hospital on Thursday (Nov 17) allegedly engaging in physical relationship with a nurse after promising to marry her.
The accused, Dr Surajit Das hails from Melaghar under Sepahijala district. He came in contact with the victim, a nurse by profession through Facebook one year ago. Gradually love blossomed and Dr Das reportedly developed a physical relationship with the victim promising to marry her.
As six months passed, the nurse told the accused doctor to marry her as promised. However, the accused tried to avoid the marriage under various pretexts and he allegedly started ignoring marrying the victim.
The nurse, who is working with an Agartala-based Hospital, lodged a complaint with East Women Police station in Agartala .
As the accused is currently working in Teliamura, the complaint was duly transferred to Teliamura.
After receiving the complaint, OC of Teliamura, Subrata Chakraborty took action and arrested the accused. Sources said, further steps would be taken accordingly.
Elderly man held for raping a minor
An 80-year-old person was arrested for raping a minor at Khowai in Tripura on Thursday (Nov 17). The incident occurred at East Sonatala village in Khowai today morning. The victim belongs to a daily labourers family.
After the victim narrated her plight, family members lodged a complaint with Khowai Women Police station – the Women Police station was inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha yesterday.
After receiving the complaint, Police swung into action and arrested the accused, Basudeb Tanti.
