Fatal bike crash at Santirbazar, one dead and one injured
Santirbazar, Nov 24: One person was killed and another critically injured in a motorcycle collision on the National Highway at Santirbazar under the South Tripura district today.
According to reports, the accident occurred near the Santirbazar Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office today at around 10:45 am.
The Santirbazar Fire Brigade received information about the crash and immediately rushed to the spot. Fire service personnel rescued both injured individuals and transported them to Santirbazar District Hospital.
Doctors at the hospital declared one of the victims dead on arrival. The other injured rider, whose condition was described as critical, was referred to GB Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment.
Initial findings based on accounts from fire service personnel, Santirbazar police, and CCTV footage from a nearby shop indicate that the accident resulted from a head-on collision between two motorcycles.
The vehicles involved were a Splendor bike (registration TR 08 6162) and a KTM motorcycle (registration TR 01 AE 8440).
The deceased has been identified as Gouranga Debnath, 40, a resident of RK Ganj, who reportedly died on the spot.
The second rider, Asmit Bhowmik, 20, of Betaga, sustained serious injuries.

Santirbazar police later reached the location, recovered the damaged motorcycles, and brought them to the police station.
A case has been registered in connection with the incident. Debnath’s body will be handed over to his family after post-mortem formalities.
The untimely death of Gouranga Debnath has cast a pall of grief across the local community.
