Rajya Sabha member from Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb on his first day in the winter Session raised the matter of setting up a circle office of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in Tripura.
Deb, the first-time MP Rajya Sabha and former Chief Minister of Tripura, started his speech by greeting the other members.
As soon as Deb greeted everyone saying that it was his first day in the Upper House, the Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who officiated as the Chairman of Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, quipped in a lighter mood that like Deb, it was also the first day for him.
Deb then raised the matter of setting up an ASI circle office in the state. He said, Tripura is the home of diverse culture and several ASI sites including Unakoti and Pilak are there in the state.
He said, there are possibilities of development of the state’s tourism sector through proper maintenance of the ASI sites. But, there is a gap in preservation of the ASI sites due to non-availability of an ASI circle office.
If an ASI circle office is established in the state, the ASI sites would play an important role in preserving the existing sites. (Courtesy: Tripura Times)
