Crackdown on illegal infiltration: BSF in Tripura detains hundreds migrants in 2025
Agartala, Dec 1: Tight border vigil by BSF in Tripura resulted in apprehension of 680 Bangladeshi nationals and 57 Rohingya migrants in 2025.
The information was revealed as the Tripura Frontier of the Border Security Force (BSF) marked its 61st Raising Day on Monday.
During the occasion, BSF officials detailed about a year of intensified operations against illegal migration and cross-border crimes along the Indo–Bangladesh frontier.
While Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha attended the Diamond Jubilee celebrations as Chief Guest—paying homage to fallen personnel and honouring war veterans—the Frontier’s operational data for 2025 drew significant attention for its scale and impact.
Major Crackdown on Illegal Migration
According to BSF Tripura Frontier, aggressive border patrolling and round-the-clock surveillance led to the apprehension of 57 Rohingya illegal migrants, many of whom were attempting to enter India through unfenced or vulnerable stretches of the border.
Alongside the Rohingyas, 628 Bangladeshi nationals were intercepted during the year.
Several among them were detained for illegal entry, while others were handed over to Bangladeshi authorities through established repatriation procedures, depending on the nature of the offence and verification outcomes.
BSF also detained 280 Indian nationals, largely for inadvertent border crossing or involvement in smuggling-linked activities.
Officials noted that the sustained crackdown has significantly curtailed attempts by organised networks that facilitate human trafficking and illegal infiltration across the porous border.
Contraband and Smuggling Networks Hit Hard
The Frontier further reported a string of seizures that dealt a major blow to smuggling syndicates operating in the region. During 2025, BSF confiscated:
* 44,426 bottles of Phensedyl
* 11,546.827 kg of ganja
* 4,19,505 Yaba tablets and 14.172 kg of Yaba
* 54,112 kg of sugar
* 1,399.34 gm of gold
* Arms and ammunition, including 2 pistols, 2 magazines and 7 live rounds
* Bangladeshi currency worth 74.64 lakh Taka
Miscellaneous goods valued at more than ₹51.65 crore.
In addition, 1,830 cattle heads were rescued from smugglers attempting to channel them across the border.
Coordinated Action Brings Down Cross-Border Crimes
Officials credited the “excellent coordination” between BSF, Tripura Police, and central enforcement agencies for the decline in trans-border offences.
Joint operations throughout the year disrupted smuggling routes and dismantled several trafficking modules, contributing to a drastic reduction in illegal activities.
Ceremonial Observances
During the Raising Day ceremony, Chief Minister Saha commended BSF’s relentless service and released the Tripura Frontier’s annual magazine Gajraj.
He praised the force for upholding its motto, “Jeevan Paryant Kartavya” (Duty Unto Death), and for acting as a steadfast guardian of the international border.

As Tripura continues to be a sensitive gateway along India’s eastern border, BSF’s intensified operations in 2025 underscore its crucial role in countering illegal migration and safeguarding national security.
