A private hospital in Agartala announced suspension of providing all sorts of medical services to people coming from neighbouring Bangladesh.

The announcement came after a group of people held a demonstration in front of the Hospital in Agartala on Saturday protesting against disrespect shown to the Indian National Flag by some people in Bangladesh.

Addressing the protesters’ primary demand to “stop medical services for Bangladeshi patients,” Gautam Hazarika, a representative of ILS Hospital, confirmed that the hospital would no longer treat citizens from the neighboring country.

He added that Bangladeshi patients had already stopped visiting the facility in recent days following the political turmoil in that country. Moreover, the hospital’s help desk, specifically set up to assist Bangladeshi patients, had been shut down couple of days ago.

Notably, many Bangladeshi nationals frequently seek medical treatment in Tripura, making the state’s healthcare facilities a vital lifeline.

However, these services to Bangladeshi people have now jeopardized due to rising tensions fueled by anti-India activities in Bangladesh.

The extended demonstration inside the hospital premises disrupted normal operations, causing significant inconvenience to patients and their attendants.

One of the protesters, speaking to reporters, said, “This protest highlights the strong sense of national pride among the people of Tripura. The hospital authorities must immediately stop offering medical services to individuals from that country.”

For the last few days, Tripura is witnessing protests across the State following the arrest of the ISKCON monk by the Yunus-led interim government.

Demonstrators across the state are condemning the arrest. As part of the agitation, protesters have halted export-import activities through the Land Customs Ports at Raghna and Kailashahar in Tripura.
