Power outages in Unakoti District hospital for two days and in several villages under Kailashahar for four days have triggered chaos and road blockades in Kailashahar on Wednesday. Protesting over alleged negligence of local private concern, Sai Computer which is in charge of billing and other power-related supply, agitating villagers of Bhagan Nagar, Chinibagan, Gopal Nagar, Maruibari, Defa, Chetlang and Deorachhara, etc blocked the Kailshahar-Dharmanagar Road today.
Agitating villagers alleged power supply remained snapped in their villages for the last four days. Healthcare delivery services were affected due to the disruption of power supply for the last two days. The outages have also affected the water supply.
“We called up the Sai Computer authority – but the phone was kept hung. We visited the Sai Computer center and submitted written and verbal complaints in vain. Power supply situation became worse after Sai Computer took the responsibility”, alleged the agitating villagers.
One engineer and staff of the Sai Computer went to the agitation place – however, a group of miscreants assaulted them. Later, DCM Surjja Debbarma went to the spot and he was also manhandled. Miscreants also vandalized a vehicle.
One of the staff of the Sai Computer is a relative of the local Yuva Morcha leader. As the leader talked to the agitators and wanted to know as to why his brother was assaulted, miscreants did not spare him and assaulted him also. Meanwhile, the agitators withdrew the road blockade.
However, Yuva Morcha supporters assembled at the spot and blocked the road demanding the arrest of the miscreants who had attacked the Morcha leader. After a prolonged persuasion and assurance that culprits would be arrested soon, Yuva Morcha activists withdrew the road blockade.
Additional security forces were deployed amidst simmering tension.
