1st Phase Coverage and Future Expansion
In the first rollout phase of the smart meter, all Circle-1 offices in Agartala have moved to the prepaid metering system. TSECL confirmed that upcoming phases will extend the technology to:
* Additional circles
* Government institutions
* General consumers statewide
The goal is a fully digital and automated energy management system covering all categories of consumers.

The new smart meters are designed to give consumers complete control over usage and payments, with real-time access to:
* Daily consumption units
* Available balance

With automated tracking, consumers will no longer rely on physical meter-readers or estimated billing. Billing errors are expected to be eliminated, as the meter itself maintains accurate records.
Smarter and More Convenient Energy Use
Officials highlighted that the system will be accessible through a single mobile application, enabling users to recharge anytime—day or night—from anywhere. Real-time usage visibility is expected to:
* Reduce energy wastage
* Improve awareness and planning
* Help households manage monthly spending more efficiently
A Gateway to Next-Generation Power Services
TSECL sources said the launch is not merely a technological upgrade, but a consumer-focused reform aimed at improving transparency, accuracy, and convenience in power billing.
The corporation believes that with the rollout in Agartala, Tripura has opened the door to a future where electricity services are fully digital, directly manageable by consumers, and optimized through technology.
