Tiprasa activists press for immediate anti-infiltration drive
Agartala Oct 23: The 24-hour Tripura bandh called by the Tiprasa Civil Society began on Thursday morning. To make the shutdown successful, picketing is being held at 45 locations across the state, including Chandrasadhu Para in Hathai Kathar Hills, Mungiakami Bazaar, and Mungiakami Railway Station, among other areas.
Social activists, Tiprasa supporters, and surrendered members of the NLFT and other militant groups have joined the bandh, raising concerns among administrative circles.
The Tiprasa Civil Society has placed an 8-point charter of demands, which includes:
1. Immediate administrative action to identify illegal foreign infiltrators in Tripura.
2. Establishment of “detention camps” in every district on an urgent basis.
3. Formation of a “Special Task Force” comprising BSF and Assam Rifles personnel.
4. Implementation of the “Inner Line Permit” system in Tripura to prevent infiltration.
5. Expedited implementation of the “Tripurasik Tiprasa Agreement.”
6. Official recognition of writing the Kokborok language in Roman script.
7. Cancellation of fake and fraudulent Scheduled Caste/Tribe certificates.
8. Immediate implementation of the “Triprasik Peace Accord” signed on September 4, 2024.

The state administration has stated that essential services such as ambulances, fire services, and hospitals will remain operational during the bandh. However, given the active participation of former NLFT members, security arrangements have been significantly tightened.
Meanwhile, former insurgent leader Chitta Debbarma told the media that, unlike other Indian states, no concrete measures have been taken in Tripura to address illegal infiltration. He asserted that they are not aligned with any political party or ideology but are fighting solely for the rightful interests of the sons of the soil.
He recalled that before the last election, a similar 14-day road blockade had been organized in the Chandrasadhu Para area under the leadership of the late veteran leader and former minister N.C. Debbarma, though he believes those protests might have been politically motivated.
On the other hand, Jirania Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Animesh Dhar informed that the blockade in his sub-division has so far remained peaceful and incident-free.
