Tripura Trinamool Congress organized a procession followed by a public meeting in the Rabindra Bhavan premises in Agartala on Monday (Nov 14).
Trinamool Lok Sabha MPs from West Bengal, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Mahua Moitra along with RS MP from Bengal Sushmita Dev, TMC State in charge Rajib Banerjee and other leaders were present in today’s meeting.
Presence of Asish Lal Sinha in the dias grabbed attention of participants. He was seen in an active way during the Assembly By-polls in the State in which TMC fought the poll under leadership of Subal Bhowmik. After an abysmal performance in the By-polls, Bhowmik distanced himself and eventually was replaced from the party’s president post – the post is still lying vacant.
Ironically, since it’s rejuvenation bid in 2020, the Bengal based party leaders are yet to be successful in finding out a well accepted local leader who can claim to provide an alternative to BJP.
With just few months to go before the election, Sushmita Dev and Rajib Banerjee’s task is obvious – finding out a leader, not a chameleon.
The leaders who arrived today from Kolkata hailed the Mamata-model of development and welfare implemented in West Bengal and flayed the BJP government on multiple issues including gender-based crimes, political violence and law and order situation.
Addressing the gathering, Mahua Moitra detailed several ongoing welfare schemes of Bengal like Kanyashree, Swasth Sathi etc. She alleged BJP govt in Tripura has failed to fulfill its promises. She cited changing the Chief Minister before his 5-year term ended as a testimony of her claim.
Moitra appealed to people to give Trinamool Congress a chance in upcoming Assembly polls and assured that Mamata model which ensured her third successive victory in West Bengal, would be rolled out in Tripura also.
In her speech, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said Tripura was lagging behind since the Left regime. People voted in favour of BJP hoping a change for a good, but the State is even lagging behind further under the BJP rule.
She cautioned BJP and said one cannot suppress the voice of people for a long by force.
Dastidar also appealed people to vote for TMC candidates in the ensuing polls.
