In an attempt to make the city cleaner, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) is planning to introduce two separate boxes for collecting dry and wet wastages from households. Secretary of the Urban Department, Kiran Gitte said in a programme held as part of the Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav celebration on Sunday.
During the programme, AMC felicitated safai workers with the Safai Mitra Samman. The programme was held at Agartala Townhall which was inaugurated by the Urban Minister Santana Chakma.
Speaking on the occasion, Gitte said, as many as one lakh 20 thousand people live in AMC areas. At present, Safai workers are collecting both the dry and wet garbage from the households. However, mixing the dry garbage with the wet during the collection is creating problems at the time of segregation and processing. To address this problem, AMC has decided to distribute two buckets – one for dry garbage and the other for wet garbage – among the household. He sought co-operation from the city dwellers to this end.
