At last, the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) has decided to promote almost 100 percent of candidates who appeared in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary Examinations this year. TBSE president Dr Bhabatosh Saha made the announcement in Agartala on Tuesday.
The decision came after massive student protests in Agartala and other parts of the State. Unsuccessful candidates held road blockades, locked schools and burnt tyres demanding promotion for all in the Board examinations.
Dr. Bhavatosh Saha told the media that “almost all candidates of Madhyamik and Higher Secondary will be promoted. The decision has been taken after reviewing the results, considering the students’ movement and all other aspects.”
State Unit of NSUI hailed the decision.
This year the full-fledged Board examinations couldn’t be held due to Covid pandemic. After the announcement of the results, a section of students started venting anger to express dissatisfaction over the results. The numbers were given based on the Expert Committee’s recommendation as per the pre-board marks sent by the concerned schools, he said.
As per the further decision, the Board reviewed the results and found faults in a few cases following which it was decided to promote all the candidates, the Board president told the media.
In the meantime, Dr Saha said some Higher Secondary candidates didn’t appear in the practical examination. Without appearing in practical exams, they can’t be promoted. So, they have to go for a practical examination in September next. Besides, the candidates who are not satisfied with the results may appear in re-examination; they have to apply in their respective schools by August 23 next.
This year, according to Board sources, a total of 39,987 regular candidates from 1066 schools and another 24,283 students from 419 schools were enrolled for Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations. Among them, 9,000 Madhyamik candidates and 1200 candidates of Higher Secondary had failed to qualify for the examinations as per the results announced by the TBSE recently.
As per the Madhymik and Higher Secondary results announced by the TBSE on July 31 and August 1 last, the TBSE recorded a pass percentage of 80.62 percent in Madhyamik and 95.20% in Higher Secondary in 2021.
