Disruption in power supply for last four days has sparked resentment among local people of Nalkata under Longtharai Valley sub-division of Dhalai district in Tripura. After repeated appeal to restore power supply reportedly fell in deaf ears, local people resorted to road blockade on Saturday.
Inhabitants of Nalkata assembled on the Assam Agartala NH and blocked the National Highway on Saturday demanding restoration of power and water supply services in the area.
Traffic came to a grinding halt on both ends of NH. Hundreds of trucks and passenger vehicles remained stranded due to the blockade.
The locals said they are suffering from power supply disruptions which resulted in drinking water crisis for the last four days.
Besides, Mobile phones ran out of battery as people were unable to charge their mobile phones.
Despite several persuasions, no initiative was taken by the concerned department, they alleged.
For frequent power supply disruptions, locals blamed Government’s decision of handing over the electricity services to a private company.
This decision has created problems for the consumers in different parts especially in remote areas of the state, locals alleged.
Meanwhile, the locals said, when the power department officials were contacted, they told the aggrieved villagers that problems in electricity supply were going on all over the state.
Concerned officials, however, said they are trying to solve the problem.
Local people demanded immediate restoration of the power supply as drinking water crisis in the area becoming a major concern.
