Ruling ally in Tripura, IPFT is planning to hit Delhi in a big way with the Tipraland demand. According to general secretary and Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia said this in Agartala after the party’s Executive Committee meeting. He said, IPFT would go to New Delhi with more than 500 supporters on October 25 next to highlight the Tipraland demand at the national level.
IPFT, after a pre-poll alliance with BJP, rattled the left bastion in hill areas with its call for ‘Tipraland’ during 2018 Assembly polls and formed the BJP-IPFT government. However, during the last more than 3-and-half-years, it failed to keep momentum – and eventually, a newly formed regional party, Tipra Motha routed IPFT in ADC Polls with a demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’.
After the ADC poll, IPFT started facing its worst phase as a good chunk of the ground level base deserted the Party and joined Motha. Even one of its MLA, quit the party and joined Tipra Motha.
Amidst the emerging existential crisis, IPFT leaders decided to woo the indigenous people with a renewed call for agitation for ‘Tipraland’.
IPFT is contesting the feasibility of ‘Greater Tipraland’ demand of Motha as confusion exists over the geographical areas that would be included in ‘Greater Tipraland’. IPFT leaders are also planning to launch campaigns in every district in Tripura to woo back the support of indigenous people before the ensuing Assembly Polls in Tripura.
On the campaign programme, Mever Kumar Jamatia said, “Tipraland demand will be stressed. Besides, we will also highlight the achievements of the BJP-IPFT government in Tripura relating to development and welfare of the indigenous people.”
Jamatia further said, “A tour programme has been chalked out and I will visit every district. There are 34 Divisional Committees in Tripura, we will reconstruct and reconstitute the committees. All these will be targeted to complete within October 20 and a detailed report of the activities will be placed before the Executive Committee soon after.
The general Secretary of IPFT also said, State level conference is likely to be held in the last week of November.
