A local court in Tripura has sentenced one person to 10-year Jail along with a fine on Thursday.

 
Belonia Sessions Court has sentenced a man to 10 years in jail along with a fine of Rs 10 thousand for raping a 30 years old woman.

 

After hearing statements of 13 witnesses, Judge of the Sessions Court, Ashutosh Pandey sentenced Shiv Shankar Debnath on Thursday. Akhtar Hussain Majumder was the Public Prosecutor in the case. The convict is a driver by profession and hails from Rajapur Sachindra Garo Colony area in South Tripura.

 

The incident of raping took place on November 24, 2018 last while the victim, a resident of Kalshimukh under Santirbazar, was returning to her home after selling cloths at Murasing Para in Patichhari during Raas Mela.

 

The victim, along with other passengers boarded the vehicle of Shiv Shankar in the morning after the mela was over. However, all of her co-passengers got down at their destinations leaving the victim alone in the vehicle. Taking her helplessness, the driver of the vehicle, Shiv Shankar, raped the woman at a secluded place near BSF camp at Santirbazar bypass road.

 

Later, Shiv Sankar left behind the injured victim and fled away with clothes worth around Rs 50000. The victim, with the help of Man Pathar Gram Panchayat lodged a complaint with Police. Based on her statement and complaint, the Police arrested Shiv Shankar. Later, Police filed a charge sheet in Belonia Sessions Court and accordingly, after hearings, the Judge of the Court pronounced the verdict.
