Even as almost two days elapsed, Police are yet to arrest the accused persons involved in assaulting the CDPO of Kanchanpur and three female staffs in North Tripura on September 30 last. Fearing further attacks, the Office remains closed, however, the staffs are running the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) for the interests of beneficiaries.

CDPO Subinay Bhowmik alleged in an application to the SDM, members of one Deendayal SHG assembled at his office premises and created chaos on September 30 last.  The members of the SHG physically assaulted Bhowmik and three other female staff – Gita Barua, Archana Das and Sashanbati Reang, the CDPO alleged.

Scared at the attacks and lack of any security arrangement, the staffs are reluctent to attend the office until Police provide security at the Office premises, the CDPO said and added, “However, considering the interests of the beneficiaries, we are continuing the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP)”, he underlined.

Bhowmik also alleged, he was dragged down from a car, assaulted and locked in a room. Later Police personnel rescued Bhowmik and other staff. Even after a written complaint, no one was arrested, so far, Bhowmik said.

He also said, the members of the SHG who attacked him and other staff, lodged a complaint alleging that the Women members of the SHG were molested by the staff of the Kanchanpur CDPO.

It is learnt, a meeting between the Departmental officials, the SDM and Additional SP is scheduled to be held on Monday

Narrating the incident that prompted the assault, Bhowmik said, quotations were invited by the Kanchanpur CDPO office on September 10 for procuring Nutrela brand Soyabean and poultry eggs. The Deendayal SHG submitted the quotation without filling up the ‘terms and conditions’ of the quotation. As a result, the bid was cancelled. Dasda Multipurpose was the only other bidder which filled up the quotation properly with documents.

Irked after their quotation was rejected, the members assaulted the CDPO and other staff, Bhowmik claimed.

In view of the attack, he demanded adequate security in the Office premises. He also no staff is willing to go the office due to security threat. However, no security was arranged so far, Bhowmik said

The CDPO also demanded immediate arrests of the culprits. A copy of the application was also submitted to the Officer-in-charge of Kanchanpur PS.
