In view of the alleged attacks upon the opposition CPM party leaders and workers across Tripura, CPM state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury on Friday sought the intervention of the state Chief Secretary and urged him to direct the competent police authority to take cognizance to the complaints lodged in different Police stations pertaining to the attacks on the party offices and media houses on September 8 last and others. He urged to take stern legal actions against the perpetrators.

The CPM leader and the party’s state secretariat member Ratan Bhowmik in a joint letter to the Chief Secretary wrote, “We also urge you to direct the Director General of Police or appropriate authority to arrange vehicular escort to the Party Secretary and State Secretariat members of the CPM Tripura and the opposition MLAs, during their tours anywhere in the state.”

“Direct the police authority to help the respective CPM leaders to reopen the closed party offices mentioned in the list and keep watch so that no further attacks on these offices are being made by any mischief-mongers,” the letter read.

The party leaders noted, “Movement of Manik Sarkar, leader of the Opposition was prevented and thwarted several times. The MLAs namely Badal Chowdhury, Sudhan Das, Ratan Bhowmik, Shyamal Chakraborty etc. were physically attacked, their cars were broken, more than once. The perpetrators feel hardly any fear of any legal action.”

They also sought the CS’s intervention in stopping the ‘random attacks’ on democratic rights of the people of Tripura, on the offices of the opposition political parties, particularly the CPM, take necessary measures to ensure reopening the CPM offices which were forced to be closed due to the unheard of terror that let loose since March, 2018.

“To our utter dismay, we find that, instead of declining in anti-democratic barbaric attacks, this has not only escalated but terror-mongers expanded its operational areas dragging larger number of innocent people under their wrath. The anti-communist violent frenzied move that the BJP miscreants had committed on September 8 last throughout the state, is nothing but a pre-planned organized move chalked out by top level of the party and had complicity with a section of the police authority,” the letter read.
