Trinamool Congress leader Sushmita Dev charted out organization expansion plan of TMC before media on Thursday and also commented on TIPRA Motha.

Trinamool Congress is relying on intensive ground survey as well as membership drive in all the eight districts in Tripura to build up organization in the State from grass root level. Silchar based Trinamool Congress leader Sushmita Dev revealed while addressing a press conference in Agartala on Thursday.

She made it clear that the leader of TMC in Tripura will be decided by the people of Tripura only.

Sushmita Dev, who recently joined TMC quitting Congress, arrived in State on September 1 and would stay till September 15 next. During her stay in the State, she will initiate membership drive and organizational programmes in all of the eight districts.

While addressing the press meet, Dev had to tackle the issue of formation of the State Committee and its president. Even as TMC has no existence of any functional Committee in the State for several years, Abhishek Banerjee in his recent visit to Tripura had announced that he would soon announce a full-fledged committee for Tripura unit – expectedly, the party failed to do so far.

In this context, Dev assured that the party would have a full-fledged organization in Tripura soon. She continued and said people are the god in democracy – so TMC will go to the people and collect the feedback. Leaders of the party will also interact with local people at the district level to identify popular leaders with clean images. According to Dev, after collecting the feedback, she would submit it to the Party leadership and the leadership will fix next course of action.

During the press conference, Dev tried to highlight that ‘this time’ is totally different from previous years as ‘this time’ TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee has fixed her focus on Tripura.

She took a jibe at BJP leaders and pointed out some of the poll promises made by BJP before the 2018 Assembly polls which it ‘failed’ to fulfil.

Dev acknowledged that TIPRA Motha is a factor as far as indigenous people are concerned and pointed out, “We have a cordial relation – both at personnel and political level – with Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and we are keen to maintain it. However, no dialogue on political issues took place, so far”.

Commenting on Motha’s condition for pre-poll alliance – that written assurance on Greater Tipra Land is needed – Dev said, “Debbarma did not discuss this with us”.
