After an under trial Turkish ATM hacker Hakan Zamburakan escaped from GB Hospital in Agartala on July 9 last and a Covid positive Jail inmate jumped out of a Covid Care Centre on July 29 night last, another undertrial – this time a thief managed to give security personnel a slip and escape from a hospital.
The undertrial who escaped is identified as Ibrahim Mian – an alleged solar lamp battery thief.
Sources said, Police arrested three persons including Ibrahim Mian from Amjadnagar and Jharjharia areas under Belonia on Saturday in connection with theft of batteries of solar lights installed by the Government.
Among the three accused persons, two – Hira Chan and Ibrahim – were broght to Belonia Hospital for conducting Covid19 test today. It is learnt, three Police Constables, two TSR jawans led by one Police Officer brought them to the Hospital. While hospital authorities were conducting Covid test on Hira Chan, cashing on the situation, Ibrahim managed to escape.
Large posse of Police force has been deployed in search operation for Ibrahim Mian.
Repeated successful escape by under trials or jail inmates in recent time has raised a major concern. Turkish fraudster Hakan’s escape from Hospital became a talking point of the town. Even as Police were successful in nabbing persons who assisted the fraudster to escape, Hakan remained elusive.
It was expected that the Jail administration and Police would be extra cautious in handling the under trials and jail inmates, particularly when Covid protocols are in force, after the high profile escape.
It may be that administration has taken steps to strengthen security while dealing with high profile persons – however, it seems that in view of Covid pandemic, overall security arrangements needs a serious look – it is a matter of grave concern that even an under trial thief is capable enough to give Police a slip from a hospital.
