Like Silchar, Sushmita Dev seems to be keen on launching mass membership drive in Tripura using her past connection in the State as a Congress leader. Explaining reasons as to why she left the Congress and joined TMC, Susmita urges Congress supporters to join TMC.

Sushmita Dev, the former Congress All India leader who recently joined Trinamool Congress, arrived in Agartala by train from Silchar on Wednesday. Also, Bengal Minister Bratya Basu, who made several visits to the State, arrived from Kolkata.

The visiting Trinamool Congress leaders on Wednesday met the family members of former Chief Minister Late Sudhir Ranjan Majumder’s family and house of a TMC leader, Mujibar Islam Majumder who was injured following an attack on him by miscreants recently.

Speaking to the media, Sushmita Dev urged Congress leaders and supporters to join the Trinamool Congress. Dev said, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee has absolutely set her eyes on Tripura.

Oblivious to the fact that TMC has no full-fledged committee, neither at State level nor at grass root level in Tripura, Dev cited example of Congress of not having TPCC for around two years to establish that Congress leadership were not serious about Tripura, but TMC is.

With her connection with Tripura as a Congress leader, TMC is expecting to boost its organization and Dev is expected to trigger slides in Congress camp.

So far, TMC has failed to bring any notable local leader sans Subal Bhowmik under its fold. Several top notch Trinamool Congress leaders including Bengal Ministers – Bratya Basu and Maloy Ghatak – made several rounds of trip, but in vain till date.

Despite having no State Committee, TMC leaders are trying to expand its base in Tripura through ‘joining’ programmes. In these joining programmes, mostly Congress supporters are switching allegiance in favour of TMC.

However, Sushmita Dev sported a confident posture and claimed that BJP would have to go in next Assembly Polls.
