State election Commission of Tripura published the Draft Electoral rolls on Wednesday (Nov 9). After a two-month long process, the final publication of the electoral rolls would be done on January 5 next.

 

After publishing the Draft Electoral rolls today, Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura, Gitte Kirankumar Dinkarrao said in Agartala the annual summary revision, from now onwards, would be conducted with reference to January 1 of the year as qualifying date, with three subsequent qualifying dates being April 1, July 1, and October 1.

 

Gitte said, the State Election Commission appointed two observers- Pradip Kumar Chakraborty and Tapas Kumar Roy to oversee the ongoing special summary revision. They would look after four districts each.

 

As per the Draft electoral rolls published today, total number of voters stands at 27 lakh 33 thousand 891 – out of which 13 lakh 80 thousand 181 are male, 13 lakh 53 thousand 664 are female voters while 46 belong to the third gender category.

 

Speaking to the media, Kiran Gitte said there are 44 thousand 813 voters in 80+ age group. Besides, the total number of voters included 10,349 service voters and 14,671 PWD voters.

 

He also said among the 60 assembly constituencies of the state, 8-Badharghat constituency has the highest number of voters – there are more than 60,000 voters. And the least number of voters exists in Krishnapur assembly constituency – there are 36,000 voters.

 

Replying to a query relating to schedule of Assembly Polls in the State, Gitte said as per the Election Commission calendar, Tripura’s election normally takes place in the third week of February. It is expected that the counting of votes would take place at February end.

 

He said, various voter Awareness programmes are being carried across the state. Besides, steps would be taken to encourage the 17+ teens/youths to enrollment their names in the Voters’ List.
