TTAADC Polls: BJP appoints Observers for micro-level outreach
Agartala Nov 7: In an attempt to gain grounds in indigenous people dominated area prior to the ensuing Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls, the ruling BJP in the State has focused on micro-level outreach initiative.
As part of the plan, the BJP has appointed observers for all 28 constituencies under the TTAADC. Their primary task is to hold small-scale review meetings with party workers, office bearers, and grassroots members across all levels – from booth to Mandal.
Within each assembly constituency, the BJP’s organizational framework consists of three major tiers.
At the top sits the Mandal level – the principal decision-making body for the constituency. Each Mandal supervises several Shakti Kendras, and these Shakti Kendras, in turn, comprise multiple booths—the smallest functional units of the party structure.
According to party sources, the appointed observers have been directed to reach out to leaders at every level of the organization and hold interactive discussions with them.
Based on these interactions, the observers will compile detailed reports highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the party in each constituency.
“These reports will serve as the basis for formulating the party’s next strategic steps,” sources said.
It is worth noting that BJP after coming to power in Tripura, faced TTAADC Polls only once in 2021 but lost it. In the election, TIPRA Motha Party-led alliance secured the ADC winning 18 seat while BJP managed only 9 seats.
But CPIM and BJP’s ally IPFT failed to win any seats.
In essence, the 2021 results marked a major setback for the CPIM, which had governed the TTAADC uninterrupted for 15 years.
Subsequently, Tipra Motha joined the BJP-led coalition in the state; however, BJP’s elected members in the Tribal District Council continue to sit in the opposition benches of the 28-member body.
With elections expected in 2026, uncertainty still looms over whether the BJP and Tipra Motha Party will contest jointly or if voters in the politically significant ADC area will once again witness a ‘friendly’ face-off between the two allies.
According to political analysts, face-off between BJP and TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) might not be anymore ‘friendly’ considering present political situation in the state after the 2023 Assembly polls where the TMP emerged as a powerful force securing second position.
Although, TMP is now in alliance with the BJP and sharing the treasury bench, the ADC Poll may witness tough battle between the BJP and TMP to establish supremacy in the indigenous people dominated areas.
Meanwhile, the CPIM, which was ousted from power, is also striving to reclaim its lost influence. Its tribal wing, the Tripura Upajati Ganamukti Parishad, has been actively organizing meetings in the hilly regions in an effort to re-establish its presence in areas that were once its traditional strongholds.
