Tripura SBI authority had urged all branches in the State to follow noble instance of Sonamura SBI branch for the interests of senior citizens during lockdown

Agartala, April 07, 2020: With lockdown in force, many of the retired persons – especially in rural areas – are facing huge problems in going to banks to collect their pensions. Several elders are preferring to stay home due to Covid19 menace – making collecting pensions more difficult. However, an SBI branch of Sonamura under Sepahijala in Tripura made a noble move and decided to reach doorsteps of each pensioner with pensions in cash.
In an inspiring drive, SBI officials have started reaching out to senior citizens with their pensions from today. In view of national lockdown, pensioners are facing up-hill task in coming to Bank to collect pensions. Keeping the plight of senior citizens in mind, SBI branch of Sonamura has initiated a noble service at this global crisis period. Sources said, led by the Branch Manager Bhabajyoti Datta, Bank staff have decided to go to every Government pensioners’ house and hand over their pensions in cash.
“There are 300 pensioners under this branch – and SDM Sonamura formally inaugurated our initiative of reaching to senior citizens with pensions in cash today”, Datta said and added, “Senior citizens need not to visit Banks for the time being, at least for collecting pensions”. SDM handed over pensions to three pensioners in the bank as a mark of beginning of ‘reaching out programme’.
After formal inauguration, bank officials reach at the doorsteps of 27 other senior citizens and handed over pension in cash, said Parimal Paul, CRM Administration of SBI. He hailed the effort of Sonamura SBI branch and said that SBI authority had urged all the branches in the State to follow the noble instance of Sonamura SBI branch for the interests of senior citizens during lockdown and global pandemic situation.
