Tripura recorded highest single spike in Covid19 positive cases on Thursday – as many as 509 new cases were detected today. While cumulative total of active cases is inching towards 3000 mark, death toll too is staring at three-figure mark. According to Medical Bulletin, cumulative total of active cases stands at 2977 and with four patients succumbed to coronavirus today, death toll surges to 89. In the meantime, total 142 patients have been discharged from various Covid Care Centres as their test results came negative on Thursday.
As the Covid19 situation turning grim with every passing day despite Government’s all out effort to contain it, clamour for lockdown is gaining momentum among people. As the numbers are swelling, pressure on medical department is mounting. Even as no official statement was available, several health professionals on condition of anonymity are serious shortage of staff and infrastructures have already become obvious. Amidst all the difficulties, State Government and health personnel are trying to wage a battle against raging Corona. However, there is no sign of relief from the clutches of the virus.
Today among 509 new cases, as many as 205 new cases have been confirmed from the West Tripura district alone.
The district-wise count included- North Tripura 30, Unokoti 47, Dhalai 63, Khowai 44, Sepahijala 55, Gomati 41, South 24 and West Tripura 205. According official sources, total 4499 samples have been tested on Thursday.
In wake of spike Covid19 cases, the state government has notified parts of Saheed Bhagat Singh Awaas and Indoor Exhibition Hall, Hapania as Dedicated Covid Health Centres (DCHCs) for the patients having moderate symptoms.
Intriguing it may sound, despite growing number of positive cases and deaths, people are not serious about maintaining social distancing and other norms. Crowd presence at Pandals in recent Ganesh Puja is a big worrying factor. While people of the State observed several auspicious Days and Pujas without any fanfare – large gatherings at Ganesh Puja Pandals will make the administration to ponder over holding upcoming Durga Puja. Whether Covid19 has spread at community level or not, it is obvious that Coronavirus scare remains unabated. Situation demands some stern and effective steps to curb this menace.
