June 12, 2018: With the onset of Monsoon on June 10, various parts of the state including Agartala is experiencing heavy rainfall and today the situation turned for the worse in many areas. Heavy rain lashed out at places across the State, from Southern part – Sabroom to Northern end – Dharmanagar.

In the wake of rampaging Monsoon, several relief camps were set up. In Chaumanu and Manu under Dhalai district, six and eight camps were set up in which 176 and 531 families took shelter. In Teliamura under Khowai district, 1021 families have taken shelter in five relief camps while three camps have been set up in Kalyanpur. In Kanchanpur under North District, four relief camps have been set up and 140 families have been accommodated. In two relief camps 181 families have been accommodated in Sabroom in South Tripura. At Pencharthal in the North, 132 families have been accommodated in three camps.
Under Unakoti district in Kumarghat, 11 relief camps have been set up in 567 families took shelter. At Kumaghat AMC area, total seven camps have been opened and 297 families have been accommodated. At Kailashahar 361 families took shelter 10 camps.
Meanwhile, one Shankar Tripura (43) hailing from Chowkidar Para under Manughat in Sabroom washed away by flood water. His 12-year old son is also missing. Despite rescue operation, the duo could be found till filing the report.
In Teliamura, Khowai River is flowing near the danger level and 1825 people of 441 families took shelter in relief camps. Moreover, around 300 families in Kalyanpur also took shelter in relief Camps. Due to incessant rain, landslide occurred at Atharomura hill under Teliamura sub-division, leaving hundreds of vehicle stranded. Even though CRPF and TSR jawans are working hard to clear the road, the situation did not improve much so far.

In Kanchanpur under North Tripura District, heavy rain coupled with landslide have forced around 1500 families to take shelter in relief camps. Flood water gushing in from Jampui Hills crashed a sluice gate leading to flooding Urichhara village. Several domestic animals were reportedly washed away in the flood water. Meanwhile, landslide, uprooted trees and electric poles have blocked roads from Kanchanpur to Pencharthal, Dharmanagar and Manu. Landslides also demolished houses Bhopatta and other areas leaving one person injured. In Dharmanagar under North District, Kakri River is flowing above the danger level after incessant downpour for last two days.

As Manu River is swelling due to heavy rains for last couple of days, people Chau manu and Manu under Dhalai district were also affected. Raging Manu River in Kailashahar under Unakoti district, has forced around 400 people to take shelter in 10 relief camps.
Intermittent spells of rains have left Agartala city and adjoining areas under water. Normal life was disrupted as several parts of the city experienced serious water logging. The Met department has warned of heavy rainfall across the state tomorrow.
