Mar 12, 2017: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and other BJP leaders, today met Goa Governor Mridula Sinha today and staked claim to form the government in the state. The team met the Governor with letters of support.
According to agency reports, Parrikar with 13 BJP MLAs, 3 MGP MLAs, 3 Goa Forward Party MLAs, 2 other Independent MLAs met the Governor and staked claim.
Of course, Manohar Parrikar will render his resignation as Defence Minister before he becomes Chief Minister of Goa, said Nitin Gadkari. In the assembly polls, incumbent BJP Chief Minister Parsekar had to taste defeat and he failed to lead the party to a distinct majority. Among others, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) with three MLAs is ready to extend support to BJP if Parrikar is chosen as the leader of the House. Goa BJP has accordingly passed a resolution and awaiting for a nod from Party President Amit Shah.
