Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu today laid the Rail Budget for the financial year 2016-17 at the Parliament. This year budget has lot to offer for Northeast region.
Rail Budget highlights for N.E.Region
- World class coaching terminal cum station at Agthori (North Guwahati) at an estimated cost of Rs.517 crores.
- Total plan outlay for N. F. Railway is Rs. 6241 crore, out of which Rs. 4308 crore is for construction of new lines, which is Rs. 146 crore more that the allocation for 2015-16.

- 515 crore has been allotted for Doubling of line which is Rs. 70 crore more than last year.
- 26 crore has been allotted for construction of bridges (excluding Bogibeel) compared to Rs. 19.25 crore allotted last year.
- The 11 National Projects in NE have been allocated Rs. 4208 crore, out of which Rs. 3808 crore has been earmarked for New Lines.
- For enhancing safety at Level Crossings, 306 unmanned level crossing will be manned. 207 of them are in NE region.
- 49,000 has been allotted for Reconnaissance Engineering cum Traffic Survey for Pasighat – Tezu – Parashuram Kund new line.
- 15.77 lakh allotted for survey for construction of new line to link with Bangladesh Railway.
- 20 lakh allotted for Reconnaissance Engineering cum Traffic survey for new line between Sairang to Hbichhuah for port connectivity on Colodyna River in Myanmar as extension to Bharabi – Sairang new line (266km)
- 50,000 each for Survey for new line between Patharkandi to Kanmum (45 km) and Panisagar – Simanapur (80 km)
- 44.8 lakh for preliminary engineering cum traffic survey for new line between Dhubri and Mendipathar (120 km) with double line bridge over Brahmaputra at Dhubri.
- 92 lakh for Preliminary Engineering cum Traffic Survey for doubling between Lumding and Dibrugarh (343km)
- Reconnaissance Engineering cum Traffic survey for new line between Moirabari – Jagiroad (50km) – Rs. 5 lakh
- Reconnaissance Engineering cum Traffic survey for new line between Margherita – Deomali (31km) – Rs. 3 lakh
