Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the Centre will invest 25 thousand crore rupees in Assam for road infrastructure. Addressing a public meeting at Dhakuakhana in Lakhimpur district today, Mr Gadkari said that steps are being taken to develop the Brahmaputra as waterways. The Minister also laid foundation stone of road and bridge connecting the river island Majuli .
Mr Gadkari will lay foundation stone of ship repair centre and roll on -roll off ferry service at Pandu in Guwahati in the evening. The first of its kind ship repair centre of North East is likely to be completed in 2018 at the cost of over 50 crore rupees. On the other hand, ro-ro service will reduce 220 kilometers road distance between Dhubri and Hatsingimari.
