October 02, 2017: Union Minister of state for Home, Kiren Rijiju yesterday said that Nartiang village in West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, which is home to a 500-year-old Durga temple will be declared as a national heritage site. Rijiju said he would ask the village council and people of Nartiang to send a proposal in this regard.
He also said that he would request the Ministry of Tourism and Culture to take necessary measures in the village since the village is a centre of attraction not just for Meghalaya but for the whole world. The Minister also visited the ancient Maa Jayantee temple and paid obeisance. Later in the evening, Kiren Rijiju met the officers and jawans of Assam rifles, the oldest paramilitary force of India, at the Headquarters, Directorate General, Assam Rifles at Laitkor. (AIR NEWS)
